“First Day of School” Kids Book 2025

A book illustration commission for a friend. This post shows only the illustrations I made for the book but not the text. The book comes in two versions, a boy version and a girl version, where only the child character in the illustrations are changed.

!Attention! As of the writing of this post (08/10/2025), this book has not yet been officially published, and not yet ready for purchase.

The intention of this picture book called “First Day of School” was to teach children, including children with autism, the steps and process of mentally preparing for their first day of school. The author of the book wanted the main character’s name to be customisable to any child’s name to help make the book feel more personal, as well as allowing parents to pick the gender of the main character at the purchasing of the book.

Finalised illustrations were created using Clip Studio Paint using a Huion pen display.

I designed sample game sprites for a male MC and a female MC with two different uniforms designs; the school uniform and a gunslinger version of the school uniform.

Illustrative Maps 2014

Illustrative maps design project for my graphic design course in 2014. The task was to create two illustrated maps of Melbourne’s City Circle tram route to promote certain sights and landmarks along the route. I decided to showcase Melbourne’s Chinatown area and retail precinct, and picked certain landmarks to feature in the maps.

Created in Adobe Photoshop with Wacom tablet and post-processed in Adobe Illustrator.

I started with four initial map thumbnail sketches and four different outfits for my map mascot character. I went with Chinatown and Retail Precinct as my two maps for the project because the other two were more at the edge of the tram route I was suppose to promote and not quite within the tram route.

The Wine-bearer Comic 2014

This webcomic was a design project for my graphic design course in 2014. The task was simply to illustrate and layout a double-page spread comic. I chose to base my comic on the Greek mythological origin story of Aquarius.

The version of the story I used came from this site, where Aquarius the Wine-bearer was originally a young price of Troy named ‘Ganymede’ who was kidnapped and forced to be Zeus’ wine-pouring slave. He was given the title Constellation of Aquarius as an apology for his mistreatment after Ganymede lashed out in frustration by pouring out all of the wine and caused flooding on Earth.

Quest for a Cause Characters & Posters 2013

This design project was requested by a start-up event organiser (who approached me during an anime & pop culture convention) who wanted an adventurer trio of characters as mascots for the ‘Quest for a Cause’ live RPG event promotional material. I designed the party of three character mascots, and used them to design the promotional poster and a web banner. Hilariously, this was a graphic design project given to me before I properly studied graphic design. (¬‿¬)

These were the initial character design sketches of the trio party mascots that I made, and a design for each character was selected from these sketches.

My drafts and further refinement of the designs. I didn’t end up using these colours in the final piece, but I did use the overall tonal value in their final grayscale version.

All these illustrations were created using PaintTool SAI with Wacom tablet and post-processed in Adobe Photoshop. The final posters was originally posted on DeviantArt and eventually I took them down.

A silent short animation for my final year animation project. The story follows a teenage girl sick in a hospital. She has an out-of-body experience and discovers that she can see other spirits and strange monsters. She encounters a young child who shares the same experience, and whose dying body is in a coma and does not have long to live. The teenage girl decides to play with the child and cheer her up until Death arrives to take the child away.

Initially, I had a lot of trouble finishing this project near the final stages due to some life situations. I actually didn’t submit the complete animation to my professor, I had cut corners a bit by not colouring in the backgrounds of the scenes where the girls were spirits. Yet my professor had graded it as complete, and it was screened along side my classmates’ animations in a local theater. (o-_-o)

I was going to leave it in its incomplete form, but my musician for the project wanted a copy of my animation for his portfolio. I was too embarrassed to send him my animation incomplete, so I went back in and coloured in all those unfinished parts, and finally completed it to the degree I wanted before sending it to him. （ー○ー）＝３

I later submitted this animation to the Golden Key International Honour Society and it won the 2013 Visual and Performing Arts Achievement Award for Mixed Media. ヾ(⌐■_■)/

A short animation project about a young man one day receiving a death countdown watch that has him feeling scared and tries to run away from his faith. However, he is stalked by Death, in the form of a creepy young-looking girl, who would not leave him until his time on his watch was up.

This was animated in Adobe Flash, properly rendered in Photoshop and then compiled together in Adobe After Effects.

I found keeping my art quality consistent very hard throughout making this animation. It seemed I was not used to drawing so much at one time and still maintain quality, and this persisted into my final year of the course. I ultimately decided not to continue pursuing the animation career path after graduation and moved on to design instead. ┐(￣ヘ￣)┌

This was made entirely in Adobe Flash, hence the wonky lines throughout the animation, and then later converted to standard video format.

2010 HxH Fanart Compilation

The anime ‘Hunter x Hunter’ became one of my all-time favourite anime/manga series since I discovered it in my late high school years. So naturally, as a fan I drew a lot of fanart for this series and posted them on DeviantArt. In 2010, I drew a lot of HxH fanart to help me practise while I was in my first year of uni.

Leona was an OC I made to be paired up with Kurapica. She existed in a fanfiction I once wrote on FanFiction.net (now taken down) during high school. Around that time, I saw the concept of character design sheets floating around on DeviantArt and decided to make one for Leona. ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
